Here are some examples of how the IFDF is accomplishing important results for our membership:
- The IFDF worked closely with state officials and other associations to develop a process wherein businesses under Chapter 497 could receive PPE through state suppliers during the pandemic.
- The IFDF successfully lobbied to change the number of funeral establishments that a LFD could oversee from 1 to 2, not more than 75 miles apart.
- The IFDF successfully lobbied the state legislature to kill a bill that would have allowed life insurance companies to refer their clients to a national funeral home company for free grief counseling, which would have excluded independent funeral homes.
- The IFDF successfully stopped a proposal that would have allowed a local hospice to open a funeral home within their operation. If passed, the hospice would have an unfair advantage in violation of rules that prevent at-need solicitation by funeral homes.
- The IFDF is preparing to take on the unregulated “Body Broker” industry.
- We successfully found sponsors and drafted legislation that was passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor to allow for a limited insurance license to sell preneed in the state of Florida.
